Angela SkopykPhD in Applied Bioscience From March to June 2017, I traveled to Sydney, Australia where I was fortunate enough to conduct research alongside Dr. Shari Forbes and her team at the University of Technology Sydney. Dr. Forbes is the Director of the Australian Facility for Taphonomic Experimental Research (AFTER) where research on donated human remains takes place. During my visit, I observed and studied the decomposition processes of both human and domestic pig remains with specific attention to: presence of entomological species and when they were observed, temperatures/humidity and subsequent VOC production, stage of decomposition, donor medical history and biological characteristics.
